As the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Pittsburgh Affiliate enters its 15th year, we are proud to continue our promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.
In 2006 the Komen Pittsburgh Affiliate:
-Raised $2.5 million
-Allocated over $1.2 million for year-round services and programs in Western and Central Pennsylvania
-Sponsored educational events and attended Health Fairs throughout Western and Central Pennsylvania.
-Awarded grants for Research Fellowships in women imagery.
-Awarded $350,000 to the National Susan G. Komen Award and Research Grant Program
-Granted funding for numerous scholarships for local radiologists
Over the last 10 years Komen Pittsburgh has also provided over 40,000
mammograms and follow-up diagnostic services to medically underserved women in 30 counties of Western Pennsylvania.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died of breast cancer at the age of 36 years. This is international organization with a network of volunteers working through local Affiliates, fighting to end breast cancer forever.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure is one of the nation's largest private funders of research dedicated solely to breast cancer. In addition to funding research, the national Komen Research Program and Affiliates fund innovative breast cancer education, screening and treatment projects for the medically underserved.
